The Occasional Cabaret exists to create live theatre that will entertain, challenge, surprise and – above all else – excite audiences.

The Occasion Cabaret

The Occasional Cabaret was founded in 2010 by Peter Clerke and Catherine Gillard. Previous to this they had both shared the Artistic Directorship of the Scottish touring theatre company, benchtours (1991 - 2009).

The staging is stunningly inventive, astonishing acrobatics and explosive acting. The scale, originality and ambition of the project confirm benchtours as a ground-breaking theatre company.

  The Guardian (on ‘The Bridge’)

Seriously hilarious. Exuberantly theatrical. Go see benchtours, they're good for your soul.
  EdinburghGuide.com (on ‘The Bear & The Proposal’)

Scotland is fortunate this autumn to see such a fine production of one of the greatest plays of the 20th Century. ****

With extensive experience in creating brilliantly innovative touring work and ground-breaking, fully inclusive, community performance The Occasional Cabaret’s artistic programme will focus on:

The production of small scale touring shows for performance throughout Scotland, the UK and abroad

The production of fully inclusive community
performance projects

And the provision of real opportunities to participate in the arts.

The Occasional Cabaret aim to do this through

Direct involvement;

with audience;

by provoking active discussion;

by challenging conventional perceptions as to ‘who
the arts are for

The Occasional Cabaret
is fully committed to widening access and participation in the arts, to working with artists who share our theatrical style and to keep our own work refreshed. We are aware of the need to be open to new influences in order to develop and stretch the company artistically.

Our past experience is invaluable to us in approaching this exciting new venture.

We hope that you will join us.
